Instead of a conventional graduate class on “21st Century Literacies:  Digital Knowledge, Digital Humanities,” Davidson and her class collaborated on a book that would guide others trying to adapt the methods of open source programming to open source learning, Field Notes for 21st Century Literacies A Guide to New Theories, Methods, and Practices for Open Peer Teaching and Learning.   Each class member assigned readings to the class and then kept notes on a Google doc during an open class session, then turned those into a chapter (the equivalent of a research paper), that was then edited by the class.  The class designed then book which will be available for free downloads on hastac.org as well as in a print-on-demand paper copy.
