In July 2014, Cathy Davidson moved to New York to direct the Futures Initiative, a new way of supporting graduate students as the next generation of leaders of institutional and classroom change. The Futures Initiative sponsors events, programs, workshops, and courses all designed to inspire creative, innovative, interactive, peer-led new ways of learning, teaching, and doing research. Since nearly thirty percent of courses taught in the CUNY colleges and community colleges are taught by graduate students, the Futures Initiative helps inspire and support graduate students in their innovative work that they are doing now, in classrooms all over the city of New York. Nearly 80% of students graduating from the CUNY system are tuition-debt free due to a combination of federal, city, and state loans. They also receive high quality education at the very source and seat of innovation.
