Next Friday, I will have the greatest joy of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University with my, friend and joint founder of the Institute, emeritus professor Karla F.C. Holloway. This celebration is part of the larger 100th anniversary of Duke University, and this conversation between myself and Dr. Holloway is the first conversation in a larger series of reflections on the tremendous success of Duke University’s significant investment in the humanities since the 1980s, and the university’s production of some of the greatest thinkers and humanists of our time. I for one cannot wait to return to Duke and celebrate this essential work in supporting and leading the humanities in these dire times!
